Actor Leonardo Cimino Has Died

According to The New York Times, actor Leonardo Cimino died on March 3rd at his home in Woodstock, N.Y. He was 94 years old. His wife, Sharon Powers, told the newspaper that his death was caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Cimino had an extensive acting career. He worked in theatre, television, and film for more than 60 years.

He went to The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater to study acting, directing and modern dance.

The actor appeared on Broadway in The Iceman Cometh, They Knew What They Wanted, Mike Downstairs, Arturo Ui, Night Life, A Passage to India, Handful of Fire, The Wild Duck, The Liar, The Insect Comedy, The Alchemist, Volpone, and Cyrano de Bergerac. He was praised for his performance as Egeon in the Off-Broadway production of The Comedy of Errors. He portrayed Vincent van Gogh in Vincent at the Cricket Theater. Cimino received an Obie Award for his portrayal of Smerdyakov in The Brothers Karamazov in 1958.

Cimino's television credits include 'Law & Order,' 'V,' 'Kojak,' and 'Naked City.' He has appeared in the films 'Moonstruck,' 'The Monster Squad,' 'Monsignor,' 'Dune,' and 'The Freshman.' He was last seen in the film 'Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead.'
