Act II Playhouse in Ambler is proud to present "Big Pants and Hot Flashes," with comedians Kevin Meaney and Julia Scotti, on Saturday, Aug. 15 at 8 p.m.

What happens when two successful comedians make life altering decisions to come out as gay and transgendered? Kevin Meaney and Julia Scotti invite you to join them for a hilarious once in a nighttime experience wayyyyyyyyy over the rainbow!

It's a show like no other. Few comedians can skip back and forth across the sexual and gender lines like these two veteran professionals. It is that comic experience and Swiss watch timing that promises a night of endless truth, fearlessness, and most of all, non-stop laughter.

As an extra added touch, a no holds barred Q&A following the show.

Kevin Meaney will be familiar to audiences from his appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, 30 Rock, Night Out and Gotham Comedy Live. He was on Broadway in Hairspray for over five years.

Julia Scotti is a nationally headlining comedian who performs in comedy clubs, theaters and colleges. She was one of the winners of the Laughlin Comedy Festival, was a Finalist Ladies of Laughter, and was named one of Advocate magazine's "Top 5 Hottest Transgendered Comedians."

Tickets to "Big Pants and Hot Flashes" are $30. Discounts are available for seniors, subscribers, and students. Tickets are available online at www.act2.org, by calling the Act II box office at (215) 654-0200, or in person at 56 E. Butler Ave. in Ambler.

In addition, Act II is hosting stand-up comedy during the two days prior to "Big Pants and Hot Flashes." On Thursday, Aug. 13 at 8 p.m., comedians Michael Donovan, Sidney Gant, LaTice Klapa, and Roger Weaver perform. On Friday, Carl Boccuti, Pat House, and Tommy Pope will perform two shows at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Kevin Meaney has been one of the country's most popular stand-up comedians for more than 30 years. Tom Shale of the Washington Post said, "Picture the precocious love child of Jonathan Winters and Ethel Merman and you have some idea of Kevin Meaney's act." Making people laugh has always been a top priority for Kevin. From his early years doing stand-up comedy in San Francisco and Boston, he's amassed an impressive list of credits along the way. His first HBO special catapulted him to the forefront of the comedy scene. In 1987, Kevin made his debut appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and was invited by Johnny to join the guest panel. Since his first appearance, Kevin had returned to the show a dozen times. He was a special guest on Saturday Night Live and has appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, Regis, Oprah and Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Kevin also appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and had a guest role on NBC's 30 Rock. Kevin has also been seen on NickMom Night Out and Gotham City Live.

Kevin also starred in the original CBS sitcom Uncle Buck which ran for a full season. In addition, he has done numerous guest appearances on both sitcoms and dramas. He also had a featured role in the movie Big. Known for drawing upon his family relationships for much of his material, Kevin has made such lines as "That's Not Right" and "We're Big Pants People" and "We're Going To Lose The House" (delivered in the tremulous voice of his mother) catch phrases for hilarity. An evening with Kevin is a trip to the funhouse where one laugh escalates into a bigger one and good-hearted humor prevails.

Kevin is also a successful writer and producer. He wrote and produced and starred in a one-man autobiographical play titled Wedding Vows in Vegas which premiered at the prestigious U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen before going on to a successful summer run in Boston at the Hasty Pudding Theatre. Steve Martin called it, "The most innovative, heart-rending and funny show I've seen in a long, long time." Then there is the Kevin Meaney Christmas Show, which is unlike any Christmas show you've ever seen before. Kevin has written and produced this show so as to combine his unique and irresistible brand of humor, his gift for singing, zany man-on-the-street interviews and featured comedy guests. The show is a wildly entertaining evening and has played in numerous theaters across the country. When Kevin moved home to NY from Los Angeles, he began working on Broadway in the hit musical, Hairspray. Hairspray has been a life changing experience for Kevin and during an interview on XM Radio's Stand Up Sit Down on May 28, 2008, Kevin told the host that he was gay. It's been a big transition but he's seemed to find humor in how it all happened.

Julia Scotti is changing how we think about age and a WHOLE lot more. Originally headlining across the country in the 80's and 90's as Rick Scotti, Julia appeared on the original Comedy Central and was the winner of Showtime's Funniest Person in America contest for New Jersey. (She lost the finals to Ellen DeGeneres.) In 2000, she left comedy and after much soul searching underwent her life-changing transition.

Following a stint at teaching, Julia realized she had some unfinished comedy business and in 2011 returned to the stage, and with her return it is obvious she has found her hilarious voice! Her amazing ability to tackle serious issues with extremely relatable humor has audiences of all ages and backgrounds falling in love with this "crazy old lady of comedy." Julia is a regular at Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas and the Borgata, Atlantic City. She will be coming out with her memoir next year, and has recently started speaking with schools and businesses to share her unique and powerful story.
