ABC's CASTLE Grows to Strongest Performance Since November

During the week of February 3, 2014, ABC delivered 5 of the Top 20 non-sports broadcast shows in Adults 18-49: "Modern Family" - No. 4, "The Bachelor" - No. 11, "S.H.I.E.L.D." and "The Middle" tied at No. 14 and "Castle" No. 17. ABC's "20/20" was the week's top-rated newsmagazine for the 2nd week in a row with Adults 18-49.

· Despite airing mostly repeat programming against the Olympics, ABC was up week to week in Total Viewers (+4% - 4.8 million vs. 4.6 million) and Adults 18-49 (+8% - 1.3/4 vs. 1.2/3).

Monday

On the first Monday of the February Sweep, ABC earned second place in Total Viewers (8.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.4/7). For the 4th straight week, the Net was No. 1 on Monday with Adults 18-34 and key Women (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54). ABC drew its biggest audience on the night in 10 weeks (since 11/25/13) tied a Monday season high in Adults 18-49.

"The Bachelor" (8:00-10:01 p.m. - 8.3 million and 2.6/7 in AD18-49):

Building from its first to second hour, "The Bachelor" won the 9 o'clock hour in Adults 18-49 for the 2nd week in a row (2.6/7), outdelivering CBS' comedies by 4% (2.5/6 - "Mike & Molly"/"Mom") and Fox's "The Following" by 37% (1.9/5). For the 4th week running, the ABC unscripted series won its 2-hour slot in Adults 18-34 and in key Women (W18-34/W18-49). Gaining for the 2nd week in Adults 18-49 (+4%), "The Bachelor" earned a best-since-premiere rating - since 1/6/14.

· "The Bachelor" was up over its year-ago telecast (7.9 million and 2.4/6 on 2/4/13) in Total Viewers (+5%) and Adults 18-49 (+8%).

"Castle" (10:01-11:00 p.m. - 10.0 million and 2.1/6 in AD18-49):

Winning the 10 o'clock hour and ranking as Monday's No. 1 drama, ABC's "Castle" built on its most-recent original two weeks ago in Total Viewers (+11%) and Adults 18-49 (+5% - up for 3rd straight original) to earn its highest numbers since November - since 11/25/13. "Castle" surged by double digits from the same night last year (8.9 million and 1.8/5 on 2/4/13) in Total Viewers (+12%) and Adults 18-49 (+17%).

· On average, the ABC drama is tracking to deliver its best season ever, growing over the same point last year by 10% in Total Viewers and by 8% in Adults 18-49.

Tuesday

"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." (8:00-9:01 p.m. - 6.6 million and 2.2/6 in AD18-49):

During the 8 o'clock hour, ABC's "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." returned up from its most recent original 3 weeks ago (on 1/14/14) in Total Viewers (+3%) and held even in Adults 18-49, taking second to CBS' top-rated "NCIS" on both measures. In addition, the ABC freshman drama won its slot by 23% over "NCIS" in Men 18-34 (1.6/6 vs. 1.3/5) to hold the No. 1 series position in The Hour for its 13th straight first-run telecast. In fact, "S.H.I.E.L.D." finished as the No. 1 broadcast show on Tuesday with Men 18-34 for its 6th consecutive original airing.

"The Goldbergs" (9:00-9:31 p.m. - 4.9 million and 1.6/4 in AD18-49):

In the 9:00 p.m. half-hour, ABC's "The Goldbergs" was up from its last telecast two weeks ago in Total Viewers (+4%) and Adults 18-49 (+7%), drawing its biggest audience in 4 weeks - since 01/07/14. In a post-Super Bowl upset, the ABC freshman comedy defeated Fox's Super Bowl-promoted "New Girl" (3.5 million and 1.6/4) in the half-hour by 1.4 million viewers and tied in Adults 18-49 to stand as Tuesday's No. 1 comedy.

"Trophy Wife" (9:31-10:00 p.m. - 3.2 million and 0.9/2 in AD18-49):

In the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC's "Trophy Wife" held even with its most recent broadcast in Adults 18-49. In addition, "Trophy Wife" delivered a bigger audience than Fox's time-period premiere of the Super Bowl-promoted "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" (3.24 million vs. 3.22 million).

"Killer Women" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 3.1 million and 0.7/2 in AD18-49):

During the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's "Killer Women" held steady with its most recent airing two weeks ago in Adults 18-49.

Wednesday

"The Middle" (8:00-8:30 p.m. - 8.6 million and 2.2/6 in AD18-49):

At 8:00 p.m., "The Middle" was up 8% in Total Viewers from its last original two weeks ago and ran within 1-tenth of a rating point in Adults 18-49, drawing the series' 2nd-biggest-ever audience against an "American Idol" telecast. "The Middle" stood as the No. 3 scripted show of the night in Adults 18-49, behind only "Modern Family" and "Criminal Minds," respectively. Spiking 29% from two weeks ago, "The Middle" hit a season-high in Teens 12-17 (1.8/7 vs. 1.4/5).

· The ABC comedy grew its overall audience from the same night last year by 5% (8.2 million on 2/6/13).

"Suburgatory" (8:30-9:00 p.m. - 6.1 million and 1.7/5 in AD18-49):

At 8:30 p.m., ABC's "Suburgatory" builds by double digits week to week in Total Viewers (+20% - season-high) and Adults 18-49 (+13% - 2nd-highest number this season), marking its most-watched telecast in nearly 1 year - since 2/27/13.

· "Suburgatory" improved over its year-ago telecast coming out of "Modern Family" by 7% in Total Viewers (5.7 million on 2/6/13).

"Modern Family" (9:00-9:31 p.m. - 9.9 million and 3.5/9 in AD18-49):

Wednesday's dominant No. 1 scripted TV show with young adults, ABC's "Modern Family" was up from its last original two weeks ago in Total Viewers (+3%) and Adults 18-49 (+3%) to deliver its best numbers this season against "American Idol."

· The ABC comedy was up over its year-ago telecast in Total Viewers (+1% - 9.8 million on 2/6/13).

"Super Fun Night" (9:31-10:00 p.m. - 4.6 million and 1.5/4 in AD18-49):

In the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, "Super Fun Night" shot up week to week by 21% in Total Viewers and by 15% in Adults 18-49.

"Nashville" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 5.2 million and 1.3/4 in AD18-49):

On average, "Nashville" is ABC's biggest percentage gainer in TV playback this season (Top 5 on all of broadcast), shooting up 75% in Adults 18-49 (+1.2 rating points) from L+SD to L+7.

Thursday

"The Taste" (8:00-10:00 p.m. - 3.2 million and 1.0/3 in AD18-49):

Despite going up against the first night of NBC's Winter Olympics coverage from 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC's "The Taste" was down just one-tenth of a ratings point from its week-ago Adult 18-49 rating. In addition, the ABC unscripted series virtually tied Fox's "American Idol"-led "Rake" from 9:00-10:00 p.m. in Adults 18-49 (1.0/3 vs. 1.1/3).

Friday

Opposite The 2014 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony on Friday night, ABC (1.1/3) beat CBS by 38% (0.8/2) and FOX by 57% (0.7/2) among Adults 18-49.

· ABC's repeat "Shark Tank" (1.2/3) and "20/20" (1.2/4) tied as Friday's No. 1 regular program on the major nets in Adults 18-49.

· Compared to 4 years ago against the 2010 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony, ABC's delivery was up by 1.6 million viewers and by 10% in Adults 18-49 (3.1 million and 1.0/3 on 2/12/10).

Sunday

"America's Funniest Home Videos - R" (7:00-8:00 p.m. - 5.4 million and 1.3/4 in AD18-49):

At 7 o'clock, ABC's encore "America's Funniest Home Videos" ranked as the No. 1 series in Adults 18-49, topping CBS' original "60 Minutes" by 18% (1.3/4 vs. 1.1/3). Despite going up against Winter Olympics coverage on NBC, "AFV" was up over the prior week by 225% in Adults 18-49 to Turn in its best repeat number this season.

"Toy Story 3" (8:00-10:00 p.m. - 3.1 million and 1.0/2 in AD18-49):

ABC's network premiere of "Toy Story 3" was the No. 1 non-sports broadcast of the night in Kids 2-11 (1.5/5). The movie delivered ABC's highest Kids 2-11 rating in the 2-hour time slot since November - since 11/24/13.
