George R Carr's evocative, dreamlike short film A Body Without A Head will receive its world premiere screening as part of the NewFilmmakers Fall Fest 2009 at Anthology Film Archives (32 Second Ave. NYC) October 5, 2009. A Body Without A Head, adapted from Carr's book of poetry and stage play of the same name, opens with a pre-screening reception at 8:30 pm and screens at 9:00 pm. The film stars Brandon Ruckdashel (Ascension, Twist).

Has modern man forgotten how to love? In first century Rome, Caesar's favorite gladiator Torpez gave up personal fame and fortune and helped transform the ancient world when he lost his head to love. Inspired by this ancient tale, George R. Carr brings to life the duets of 12 modern "gladiators" as they struggle through the labyrinth of love.

A Body Without A Head is a lyrical film influenced by the work of Ingmar Bergman and Alain Resnais. Originally produced as a theatrical event in April 2008 in downtown Manhattan, A Body Without A Head has been transformed into a stunning short film that weaves together George R Carr's poetry, Tom Zuback's striking photographs of the 2008 theatrical production, the animated sketches of Zack Carr III, and the music of Mark Nolan.

A Body Without A Head also stars Courtney Allen, James Edward Becton, Sarah Doudna, Matt Drago, Olivia Julien, Brian Karim, Catherine Kjome, Terrence Michael McCrossan, Barbara Mundy, John Van Ness Philip, Stephen Seidel, Mark McCullough Thomas and Parker Colt. The creative team includes Andrew Loren Resto (production design), Kevin Carrigan (costume design), Drew Vanderburg (lighting), and Melissa Riker (choreographer). Henry Steady is the editor.

A Body Without A Head (2008, 18 minutes, video), produced by Veritas Productions and Avec Promotions, will screen Monday, October 5 at 9:00 pm at Anthology Film Archives (32 2nd Avenue at 2nd Street, Subway: F/V to 2nd Avenue or 6 to Bleecker). Tickets are $6 at the door. For more information, visit www.newfilmmakers.com or call 212.505.5181.
