10 Reasons to Love Broadway's Ultimate Powerhouse- Idina Menzel
It's been nine long years since Tony winner Idina Menzel has graced a Broadway stage. This season, she makes her triumphant return in Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey's new musical If/Then, which opens Sunday, March 30, at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
Just in case you've forgotten why you fell in love with her in the first place, below BroadwayWorld brings you ten more reasons to love Idina Menzel.
1. She has a big heart.
When Idina isn't treading the boards she is working on the charity that she co-founded back in 2010- A Broader Way. The charity is dedicated to offering girls from urban communities an outlet for self-expression and creativity through arts-centered programs. For more information, visit: http://www.abroaderway.org/
2. She knows how to forgive and forget.
After the great 'Adele Dazeem' controversy, Menzel released the following statement: "[John Travolta] was really gracious and sent this gorgeous email, and we're buddies and it's all cool. Please. I mean, I've only benefited from it."
3. She has a killer range.
Need we even say more? Idina made 'belting your face off' a thing.
4. She has humble begnnings.
Idina's career wasn't just handed to her. Before she was one of Broadway's most beloved stars, she was getting by as a wedding and Bar Mitzvah singer.
5. She's a woman of many mediums.
Fans need not travel all the way to New York City to see this diva in action. In recent years she has appeared regularly on television and movies too!
6. She keeps her fans in the loop.
7. She IS that girl.
Idina has created some of the most beloved roles in musical theatre, including 'Maureen' in RENT and the original green girl- WICKED's 'Elphaba.'
8. She's got the guts to sing Gaga with the Philharmonic.
As a part of her New York Philharmonic debut in 2011, Menzel belted out some seriously unconventional tunes, including Lady Gaga's "Pokerface"--and amazingly at that. Plus her following Barefoot at the Symphony concert tour brought more of those performances to the masses.
9. She's a Disney Queen.
The success of Frozen has ushered Disney animated films into a new Golden Age (partially due to Menzel's portrayal of 'Elsa'). But long before that she starred in 2007's Enchanted.
10. Have we mentioned that she's a vocal powerhouse?
Really though, does it get any better than this?!
