Anchorage Community Theatre News- Pump Boys and Dinettes Opens this Friday

We open Pump Boys and Dinettes this Friday evening, with a preview pay-what-you-can preview performance on this Thursday at 7. It's a toe-tapping, feel-good musical review and we have an outstanding cast. I expect quite a few sold out houses, so don't wait too long to make your reservations. Pump Boys and Dinettes features 4 guys who work in a gas station and 2 ladies as waitresses in a diner. We will have 2 seats on the edge of the stage in the diner available for audience members. These 2 folks will be served coffee and pie from the Double Cupp Diner in the show. The 2 seats are available for an additional $10 for season ticket and punch-card holders, and $25 for everyone else. Make reservations online or give us a call at 868-4913 (you need to call if you wish to reserve the two diner seats). Remember that Thursday evening performances are free for high school students thanks to a grant from Target.

Auditions for our Summer Play The 39 Steps on June 1

Midnight Sun Theatre and Anchorage Community Theatre have partnered again to bring you The 39 Steps, a play based on the classic Alfred Hitcock movie, except that 4 actors play about 140 characters. There will be at least one male actor and one female actor. The other two actors can be either male or female, although the Broadway and London productions used 2 males in these roles. Want more background on the show? Download the Broadway study guide for more information.

Auditions are scheduled for Sunday evening June 1 from 6 to 9 PM at ACT. Please prepare a 30 second to 1 minute comedic monologue. You also will be asked to read from the script. The show will run from July 8 - 31 with performances on Thursday - Saturday evenings at 7 and Sunday afternoons at 3. Rehearsals will start soon after the auditions. Auditions are at the ACT Studio Theatre at 1133 E. 70th Ave., just off the Old Seward Highway between Dowling and Dimond. Please contact our Director Dave Block for more information or if you are unable to audition on June 1.

Time to Consider Season Tickets for Next Year

It's time to think about renewing or buying season tickets for next year. We are not raising our prices -- only $60 for adults and $52 for seniors/military/students. You won't find a better theatre deal in Anchorage or anywhere. You get a ticket to each of our 5 regular season shows, starting with Arsenic and Old Lace in October, free coffee, tea or water at our shows, and $2 off our summer show, The 39 Steps, and our presentation of Fourplay: Four Short Plays by Alaskans next Fall (four new plays). You can buy your season ticket online, over the phone at 868-4913, or when you attend Pump Boys and Dinettes.

Other Theatre in Town this Weekend

Cyrano's presents Becky's New Car directed by ACT Board member Schatzie Schaefers. You also will see our Board member Kevin Bennett in the show.
