When 17-year old Nick takes a floatplane to his grandparents' village, it signals change for his grandfather, cousin, father, and his grandmother Linda--the strong warp in this family whose experiences are woven together with modern and traditional storytelling including song, dance, poetry, and '90s hip-hop. A world premiere portrait of an Alaskan family by Tlingít playwright Frank Henry Kaash Katasse, They Don't Talk Back runs January 25 - February 19 in Juneau, and March 2 - 12 in Anchorage.

Perseverance Theatre is fortunate to collaborate with Native Voices at the Autry, a company dedicated to supporting the development and production of plays written by Native Americans and Alaska Natives. Between Perseverance and Native Voices, we have assembled an all-native cast, including three Tlingít actors. The result is a native written, directed, and performed world premiere that will have been seen at La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, Native Voices at the Autry in Los Angeles, and Perseverance Theatre in Juneau and Anchorage.

The production is led by director Randy Reinholz, co-creator of Native Voices at the Autry, and Director of the School of Theatre, Television, and Film at San Diego State University. The cast includes Alaska Native actors Jake Waid, Diane Benson, Brían Wescott, Skyler Davis as well as Cherokee actor Kholan Studi. They Don't Talk Back also features music by Tlingít composer Ed Littlefield.

In Juneau, tickets to They Don't Talk Back are available at the Perseverance Theatre box office, the JACC, Hearthside Books, by calling 463-TIXS, and at ptalaska.org. In Anchorage, tickets are available at Centertix, ptalaska.org, and by calling 236-ARTS. Discounted tickets are available for groups of four or more. $15 Rush tickets are available 30 minutes before curtain for each performance, space available.
