Now Playing Onstage in Anchorage - Week of 4/27/2014 ALASKA YOUTH ORCHESTRAS
Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, Discovery Theatre
5/3-5/3/2014
Join the award-winning Anchorage Youth Symphony under the artistic direction of Linn Weeda. Each concert includes the Anchorage Youth Philharmonic with conductor William Waag. The 150 members of the Alaska Youth Orchestras come from throughout south central Alaska to participate in the making of exciting music. Alaska Youth Orchestras' programs this year are filled with some of the brightest and most interesting work in the repertoire. The season kicks off with an extravaganza of music making: the two ensembles of the AYO - the Youth Symphony and the Youth Philharmonic, will be joined by the Junior High Youth Symphony - both their orchestras and band. The finale of the concert will be the joining of four orchestras in a performance of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 2 Finale. The concert will also include a guest appearance by the Alaska Dance Theatre. AYO's second concert includes the folk influenced Hungarian Sketches by Bela Bartok, Marquez's engaging and toe tapping Danzon No. 2, along with music by Tchaikovsky as well as a performance by one of our concerto competition winners. The final concert of the season features another winner of AYO's concerto competition, and will also include Tchaikovsky's magnificent Symphony No. 4. Each concert will feature the Anchorage Youth Philharmonic and its exciting conductor, William Waag. Among other works, he has programmed Bizet's Incidental Music from L'Arlesienne and music by Mozart.

Now Playing Onstage in Anchorage - Week of 4/27/2014 THE FOX ON THE FAIRWAY
Anchorage Community Theatre
4/25-5/18/2014
A tribute from Ken Ludwig (Lend Me A Tenor, Moon Over Buffalo) to the great English farces of yesteryear (including Charley's Aunt), The Fox On the Fairway takes audiences on a hilarious romp which pulls the rug out from underneath the stuffy denizens of a private country club. Filled with mistaken identities, slamming doors, and over-the-top romantic shenanigans, it's a furiously paced comedy that recalls the Marx Brothers' classics. A charmingly madcap adventure about love, life, and man's eternal love affair with... golf.
