"Forever Plaid" is rousing, rollicking musical entertainment -- a nostalgic trip through the era of silky-smooth, tight-harmony vocal hits of the 1950s.  Add a cozy Christmas score (including Carol of the Bells, The Christmas Song, Little Town of Bethlehem and Let It Snow) and hilarious cross-over holiday tunes (like Cool Yule and Deus Ex Plaid), as the directors & writers did for "Plaid Tidings", and what audiences find is pure nostalgic joy!

The musical comedy is a take-off from the hugely successful 1990s Off-Broadway hit show which swept theaters from New York to Los Angels, Toronto, London, Johannesburg and features our same dear boys Sparky, Smudge, Jinx and Franky.  In the original tale, the boys comprised the up-and-coming vocal group The Plaids who sang in the style of their idols -- The Four Freshmen, The Crew Cuts and The Hi-Los. On the way to their first big gig, the wholesome, albeit kinda nerdy guys, are killed in a tragic car accident by a group of teens on their way to see the Beatles' debut on The Ed Sullivan Show.  Then....40 years later....(which is the setting of the show)....through the power of harmony and holes in the ozone, The Plaids miraculously return to earth to perform the big show they never got to do in life.

Now, in "Plaid Tidings" the four Plaids are suddenly transported from the ethereal cosmos back to earth because they are desperately needed to put a little harmony into a discordant world and perform a hilarious holiday extravaganza for weary mortals. In the process they get to do their very own Christmas Special on "The Ed Sullivan Show" before heading back to heaven.

"Plaid Tidings" appears at the Spencer Theater on Friday, December 3 at 7 p.m. & Saturday, December 4 at 1 p.m. The musical comedy stars David Engle as Smudge, who created the role in the original N.Y. production of "Forever Plaid" and in "Plaid Tidings." He is a six time winner of the LA Stage Alliance Ovation Award, and his many credits include starring opposite Carol Burnett in "Putting It Together" on Broadway. Stan Chandler is Jinx, who created the role in the original Off-Broadway hit.  His impressive career includes performing in the revival of "Cabaret" with Joel Gray.  David Humphrey stars as Frankie who has performed in the national tours of "Forever Plaid" and "Plaid Tidings" and Jeffrey Scott Parsons, who has been seen in regional theatre troops starring in such hits as "Crazy for You" and "The Full Monty."

Excellent seats ($59 & $56) are available for this heart-warming holiday hit! Call 575.336.4800 or go to www.spencertheater.com  for tickets! The Spencer's performances coincide with the Festival of Lights celebration in Ruidoso. Traveling patrons should check out the beautifully decorated trees at the Spencer, enjoy the richly comic nostalgia of "Plaid Tidings" and then head downtown for the Festival of Lights' electric light parade.
