To kick off a year-long series of staged readings of famous plays is one of the most performed romantic comedies of the last 40 year; Same Time, Next Year.

New Jersey accountant George Peters and Oakland housewife Doris meet at a Northern California inn in February 1951. They have an affair, and agree to meet once a year, despite the fact both are married to others and have six children between them. Over the course of the next 24 years, they discuss the births, deaths, and marital problems each is experiencing at home, while they adapt themselves to the social changes affecting their lives.

The play opened on Broadway in 1975 and starred Ellen Burstyn and Charles Grolin. It was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play and won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New American Play. Ellen Burstyn won both the Tony Award for Best Actress and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress. It then spawned a popular film adaptation with Ellen Burstyn and Alan Alda.

Bernard Slade (author) is also known for his plays Romantic Comedy and Tribute for which he also wrote the screenplays for the film versions, and was Oscar-nominated for his screen adaptation of Same Time, Next Year. He had previously developed The Flying Nun (adapted from Tere Rios' book, The Fifteenth Pelican), with Sally Field for television and the iconic TV show The Partridge Family with Shirley Jones based on the real-life Cowsills.

Talia Pura (Director) is a filmmaker, playwright, actor, dancer and educator. She has created ten short dramatic films, which have played at various film festivals and on television. As a playwright, she has had many performances and several publications across Canada and in the USA. As an actor, she has appeared in many feature films, television shows and on many Canadian and New York City stages.
