No Strings Theatre's THE TELEPHONE to Play Mesilla Valley Musical Arts, 1/5 & 6

Mesilla Valley Musical Arts and No Strings Theatre Company will present two holiday performances of Gian-Carlo Menotti's "The Telephone" at the Black Box Theatre, 430 N Downtown Mall in Las Cruces.

A one act comedy performed by a pair of singers with piano accompaniment, the story revolves around the problems technology causes in relationships. In the "opera buffa" style, this show is set in a contemporary setting and sung in English. The universality of the plot can be appreciated by one and all. Popular with both lovers of opera and those who don't necessarily consider themselves opera fans, this light-hearted story is sure to delight audiences of all ages!

NMSU alumni, Eliza Woodyard and Revere Taylor will be in town to reprise the roles of Lucy and Ben which they created last Spring. From Indianapolis, Indiana (Eliza) and Santa Fe (Revere), their time here at NMSU was highlighted by a variety of fine performances with the Dona Ana Lyric Opera and in other settings. Both wonderfully talented musicians, Eliza and Revere have gone on to continue their studies as master's candidates in vocal performance in Greeley, Colorado at the University of Northern Colorado. They are preparing to sing Spring roles in Barber's "A Hand of Bridge" (Eliza as Geraldine) and "La Traviata" (Revere as Germont).

Performances will be on Saturday evening, January 5 at 8:00 PM and on Sunday, January 6 at 3:00 Tickets are $10 ($9 for students and seniors) and may be reserved in advance by calling the theater at 575-523-1223.
