Verdi's immense and powerful Requiem will be presented by State Opera of South Australia (SOSA) for two nights only at Adelaide Festival Theatre this August.

Dramatic from beginning to end, Verdi's mighty Messa da Requiem or Mass for the dead stands as one of the most exhilarating musical masterpieces in the repertoire.

SOSA Artistic Director & CEO Timothy Sexton said the production was a one hundred minute journey through some of the most exciting and sublime music ever written by the Italian composer.

"It's a work of operatic genius which changed the face of choral music forever. From the soaring Sanctus to the pounding opening of the Dies Irae, this is music of gut-wrenching force that once heard is never forgotten," Mr Sexton said.

"Verdi's Requiem is a true visual and aural spectacular. Experiencing the Requiem live with its abundance of voices and orchestral power on stage, is truly captivating and should be experienced at least once in a lifetime."

The cast features some of South Australia's most esteemed operatic voices, including soprano Teresa La Rocca, mezzo Elizabeth Campbell and bass-baritone Douglas McNicol, joined by tenor Diego Torre and the fabulous State Opera Chorus in its element.

Conducted by Mr Sexton, the wonderful Adelaide Symphony Orchestra will bring Verdi's superb orchestral writing to life, making this is a stunning inclusion in SOSA's 2015 season.

The company will present the Verdi Requiem tonight and Friday, August 26 and 28 during its season of Charles Gounod's Faust at the Adelaide Festival Centre from August 22-29.
