Adelaide's musical answer to The Bachelor or Sex and the City is heading to the Stirling Community Theatre in November for the first time in 16 years.

On the night of his 35th birthday, confirmed bachelor Robert contemplates his unmarried state. Over the course of a series of dinners, drinks, and even a wedding, his "married friends" explain the pro's and con's of taking on a spouse. The habitually single Robert is forced to question his adamant retention of bachelorhood during a hilarious array of interactions.

Company by George Furth (book) and Stephen Sondheim (music and lyrics) is a conceptual musical that broke the mould of traditional music-theatre in the mid seventies and continues to remain even more relevant today.

The musical is one of Stephen Sondheim's most accessible pieces, filled with humour and wry irony, and featuring a brisk and energetic score with songs such as; 'Being Alive', 'Ladies Who Lunch', 'You Can Drive a Person Crazy' and many others. The 2011 live production with the New York Philharmonic, starring Neil Patrick Harris, Patti LuPone, Martha Plimpton, Jon Cryer and Christina Hendricks was a smash hit, receiving cinematic release across the world.

Award-winning musical director, Mark DeLaine will once again deliver Sondheim's intricate scores for the Hills Musical Company, joined by director/musical staging, Fiona DeLaine (graduate Flinders Drama and well-known performer/director in Adelaide).

Director, Fiona DeLaine says: "Company is not a highlighter for all the reasons not to marry; it is not a magnifying glass for all the reasons marriage is pointless or evil. What it is, is a focus on the need in our cold, crazy, disposable society not to throw something out because it has flaws."

Without the roses or the women in designer shoes, Company is a snapshot of one man's view of relationships as he searches for the meaning of 'being alive' in today's world.
