After the runaway success of its premiere season in 2012, Sons & Mothers by No Strings Attached Theatre of Disability comes to the Space Theatre from 17 - 26 October.

Written and directed by NSA artistic associate Alirio Zavarce, in collaboration with the performers, Sons & Mothers is a humorous and poignant look into the lives of six men and their relationships with their mothers. These are love stories, made all the more potent because of the disabilities the men live with, and their humbling takes on the discriminations they've faced.

Of the 'sons' involved, three live at home with their mothers, one lives independently but relies on his mother daily, and two have lost their mothers. The 'sons' - Kym Mackenzie, Duncan Luke, Ryan Rowland, Richard Samai, Damien Turbin and Ben Wishart - create intimate and authentic portraits of their experiences with their mothers.

Sons & Mothers premiered at the 2012 Adelaide Fringe Festival to huge success and excellent reviews, with a sold-out season. The show also received three coveted Fringe Awards, including Best Theatre Production and Adelaide Festival Centre's inSPACE Development Award, which gives local performers the opportunity to develop their work for the main stage.

No Strings Attached Producer PJ Rose says,

"Sons & Mothers also puts the humanity of disability centre stage providing professional work for disabled artists whilst presenting new stories. The show is conceived for general audiences of all ages, but it will also appeal to disabled audience members who seldom see their own experiences on the public stage."

No Strings Attached is A Contemporary Theatre company that creates original theatre through the unique perspectives of its disabled performers. The company produces work locally, tours nationally and discovers new talent weekly in workshops that are tailored to the individual needs of the participants. No Strings Attached aims to lead the way in training, services and opportunities for disabled artists by creating world-class theatre, and supporting its members to develop career paths in the performing arts.

The production will feature a number of AUSLAN Interpreted and Audio Described performances. Audio Description is commentary for people who are blind or vision impaired. For more information and performance dates visit the BASS website www.bass.net.au

A feature documentary of the creative process behind Sons & Mothers has been made by local Production Company POP Pictures. Also titled Sons & Mothers, the film will premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival in October 2013. This documentary is an intimate look into the triumphs and stumbles of unconditional love and will reinforce your belief in humanity.
