As the acclaimed Graduate Singers, conducted by Karl Geiger, come to the close of another successful year they finish on a celebration of that most popular of festivals Christmas and the Nativity.

Graduate Singers celebration of the Nativity begins at 7.30pm Saturday 12 December at St Peter's Cathedral.

The major work is Ottorino Respighi's Lauda per la Nativita for soloists, choir, woodwind and piano.

The other substantial work is Howard Blake's Four Songs of the Nativity, also with woodwind. The choir will also perform a number of settings of Away in a Manger andSilent Night.

Artistic Director Karl Geiger said of the program: "Respighi expertly blends madrigals and plainchant with vivid and colourful harmony to evoke an ancient simplicity. This is a rare opportunity to hear this masterful work!

"The choir showcases music inspired by the nativity. English composer Howard Blake, best known for his film scores which employs his gift for melody with flair in his Four Songs of the Nativity, another South Australian premiere!"

Soloists are: Soprano - Brooke Windows; Mezzo-Soprano - Emma Horwood and Tenor - Norbert Hohl.
