Warning! Someone will die tonight! A Murder Most Foul: The Tutorial Conundrum is an interactive dinner event where you could be a killer, or wind up dead!

We were warned to not give away any details about the show and no spoiler alerts are allowed, so I can't tell you what happens, but I can tell you that if you're one of those willing participant types, then you're going to have a great night.

What a delight to be part of Red Fez Productions's opening night of their brand new murder mystery dinner event. After a sell-out season in 2016, I was eager to see just what all the hype was about.

Set in the newly established Alere Function Centre at Flinders University, guests are treated to a scrumptious four-course dinner as they play detective while mingling with the other guests.

Once underway, you are assigned a character for the evening and provided with a package containing information about that character, and play money should you wish to bribe and blackmail others for information which, of course, is strongly encouraged. The idea is that, with the information you receive, you are to bring your character to life and maintain it throughout the evening.

If acting isn't your thing and improvisation isn't your strong point, this could prove difficult. I must admit, I struggled at first to get into character but, once everyone was giving it a go, it made the night a lot of fun. The tricky thing is to try to keep track of everyone you meet and all the information being shared as, with so many shifty people in your company, it seems everyone's got it in for everyone else and fingers are being pointed everywhere.

What's great about the night is that between courses you are encouraged to get up and move around the restaurant as you wish and that you're definitely not alone. The host also plays a character and will offer help, drop hints or arrange for people to chat if the need arises.

Just before dessert, as the night starts to wind down, guests are invited to submit their 'whodunit' sheets compiled from their own detective work, and then wait in anticipation as the killer is ultimately unveiled.

The type of night you'll have and the amount of enjoyment you'll get out of attending is really based on just how much effort you're willing to put into your character and give 'being a detective' a go. Dressing up, of course, is highly encouraged and adds to the amusement of the evening. The night runs for approximately three and a half hours, so there's plenty of time to get into the swing of things but, if you're a later starter, then you may just miss out on important clues. What would be good to see at future shows are some themed ambient lighting, music, and special effects to really raise the stakes and make the night thrillingly entertaining.

A Murder Most Foul has just released a few extra nights after selling out their season for 2017, so get in quick if a classic 'whodunit' thrills you.
