Adelaide director, writer, performer and musician Alirio Zavarce was appointed Artistic Director of No Strings Attached Theatre of Disability by the company Board today.

Zavarce takes up the appointment in March 2016 when long-term Artistic Director Dr PJ Rose moves on to new adventures after a 20-year association with the company and a long list of credits.

"Alirio's illustrious 10-year creative relationship with No Strings Attached makes him eminently qualified to assume artistic leadership," Rose beamed.

An acclaimed creator of multi award winning theatre, Zavarce brings an artistic vision and methodology that will build on the company's strengths and stretch its capabilities into the future.

"No Strings Attached is much more than just a theatre company," Zavarce clarified. "No Strings Attached is a community, and I am so excited to become the artistic leader of this amazing organization. My first job is to consult with all the participants to get a map which will guide the shows and directions that we will take for the future. I want their voices to be heard, their talents to be seen and their message to be felt," he said with pride.

Zavarce is celebrated for his contribution to the South Australian arts industry over the past 15 years. Applying his unique skills, creativity and love of engagement with disabled artists, he facilitates new voices to tell their own stories and, in the process, creates extraordinary theatre.

In announcing the appointment, Board President Jill Gael said, "Alirio is a remarkable artist and inspiring leader, and the company feels privileged to be partnering with him. We also acknowledge the wonderful work of PJ Rose in every aspect of the achievements of No Strings Attached to date."
