A colourful and energetic fusion of tropical island rhythms along with African percussion and a whole host of musical influences including pop, jazz, and reggae, Grace Barbé is bringing her afro sound of the Seychelles to the Space Theatre for one show only on 16 October.

Grace Barbé lights up the stage with a vibrant and engaging presence, and audiences can't help but dance to her fresh and funky Kreol sound. Her voice is a remarkably powerful instrument, and as a songwriter she has a rare and natural gift for rhythm and melody. Grace plays guitar and bass and sings in three languages: English, Kreol and French.

Barbé was raised between Western Australia and the Seychelles and developed a strong connection to Kreol culture from an early age; she grew up performing in bands within the Seychellois community in Perth. After fronting a reggae band and touring as part of a hip-hop crew, Barbé joined forces with UK writer and producer Jamie Searle and formed her own band.

Having cemented her place on Australia's world music stage through support slots to The Cat Empire and Xavier Rudd, along with performances at Australia's leading music festivals including Byron Bay Bluesfest, WOMADelaide and Woodford Folk Festival, Grace Barbé's soulful music reflects and celebrates the diverse cultural influences of her Seychellois heritage.

Her new album Welele! Represents a mature and definitive manifesto of Grace's Afro-Kreol style - a colourful and energetic fusion of tropical island rhythms with African percussion, reggae, pop, rock and latin flavours. She has also toured internationally at SAKIFO and IOMMA (La Reunion), Reggae Donnsa (Mauritius) and Carnivale Internationale de Victoria(Seychelles), proving that she is already well on the way to becoming the next diva of world music in the tradition of Angelique Kidjo and Miriam Makeba.
