Adelaide Festival Centre Presents TUBULAR BELLS FOR TWO

One album, two men, too many instruments, Tubular Bells for Two is a musical triathlon with bells on. Two blokes juggle more than 20 instruments live on stage in a spellbinding performance. A multi-award winning sell-out hit at festivals around the world, Tubular Bells for Two is now returning home for an Australia tour taking to the Dunstan Playhouse stage from 17 - 18 February as part of Adelaide Fringe.

Ask anyone who grew up through the 70s and they will be able to tell you exactly where they were when they first heard 'Tubular Bells'. Composed by Mike Oldfield in 1973, the album was the first released on Richard Branson's fledgling record label, Virgin Records. The album went on to sell over 30 million copies, kick-starting the Virgin empire.

Now, more than 40 years on, two young Australian multi-instrumentalists, Aidan Roberts and Daniel Holdsworth, are presenting this modern masterpiece in a challenging live event. So what's the catch? Oldfield harnessed - what was at the time - the latest in multi-track recording technology, playing a multitude of instruments one-by-one in the studio. However, in Tubular Bells for Two there are only two men on stage needing to perform every part live with only four hands and four feet between them.

The duo are literally rushed off their feet as they race around a sea of instruments. It is an intricately choreographed, thrilling piece of tightrope theatre. Things can go wrong at any moment, and the slightest mistake or misplaced limb can bring the entire show crashing to a halt. Regardless of whether you're a 'Tubular Bells' virgin, or long-time fan, it is guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat. It is one of the most innovative musical performances to grace the stage in many years.

Holdsworth and Roberts premiered Tubular Bells for Two at Sydney Fringe Festival 2010, where they won the 'Best Musical Moment' award. The production went on to tour Australia and New Zealand, including sell-out seasons at The Victorian Arts Centre (2011), Darwin Festival 2011, Sydney Festival 2012, and New Zealand International Arts Festival 2012. In August 2012 the show had a sell-out season at the Edinburgh Fringe, where it received multiple 5-star reviews and two awards ('Herald Angel Award', 'Broadway Baby 6 Star Award'), leading to a five-month tour of Europe and the UK in 2013, and a return European tour in 2014, US and Iceland tour in 2015

Daniel Holdsworth is a composer and multi-instrumentalist. He has performed in many Australian bands and theatre productions, and composed music for film, television, theatre and dance.

In recent years he has received international acclaim as co-creator and performer in the multi-award winning productionTubular Bells for Two (ShortWalk / Glynis Henderson Productions, 2010-15). He was the singer/songwriter for the rock band,The Saturns (2004-10), he has performed regularly in Sydney based folk band The Maple Trail, and also performs as a solo artist.

In film, Daniel composed the score for William Yang: My Generation (ABC/Felix Media, 2013), which premiered at the Sydney Film Festival 2013. He has also toured in the stage version of this production (Performing Lines, 2008-10) commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery, Australia. Holdsworth has collaborated with Andree Greenwell, co-composing some music for the US film, Home, by Anne-Marie Hess (SouthWest Alternate Media, 2006). He has also written scores for short films, theatre and dance, including Hansel and Gretel (The Acting Factory, 2008-09), The Gelatinous Drool of Ignorance (2007), Organ Delivery (2006), Hanging By A Thread (Theatre Nepean, 2004) and Big Girls Don't Cry (Theatre Nepean, 2003)

Aidan Roberts is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and illustrator from the Blue Mountains. He is a founding member of acclaimed psychedelic folk-rock group, Belles Will Ring (Architecture/Remote Control), and has also released three albums as a solo artist under the name The Maple Trail (Broken Stone Records). Roberts has been a long-standing collaborator and guitarist with the ARIA nominated singer, Lanie Lane.

Since 2009, Aidan has found international success in the award-winning production, Tubular Bells for Two. He has also composed scores for theatre, including Hamlet (Harlos Productions, 2009 & 2010), Tattoo (Griffin Theatre Company, 2009),Some Voices (Lockup Theatre, 2008) King Lear (Harlos Productions, 2007), and Titus: The Ultimate Murder Ballad Musical(Gumption Ubertheatre, 2006).
