Last summer, Jon Stewart announced that he would be creating a multi-platform animated series with HBO. The show, set to debut this September, was to be a vehicle for the former DAILY SHOW host to express his views on topical items in the news. Yesterday however, The New York Times reported that Stewart and HBO have officially agreed to scrap the project entirely.

"HBO and Jon Stewart have decided not to proceed with a short form digital animated project," the two said in a joint statement Tuesday night, per the Times. "We all thought the project had great potential, but there were technical issues in terms of production and distribution that proved too difficult given the quick turnaround and topical nature of the material. We're excited to report that we have some future projects together which you will be hearing about in the near future."

Despite the announcement, a deal is still in place between Stewart and HBO. Deadline reports that an announcement about a future project airing on the cable network will be made in the coming weeks.
